This section provides a quick description of the home network and the PPP network. The modem acts a gateway to connect the home network to the PPP network.
If all computers and the DSL modem are connected correctly, the modem will use its default settings to
form 2 networks to connect your computers to the Internet:
The home network - The local area network formed by 5 computers connecting to the modem,
which acts as a network hub. The home network allows any computer to communicate with any other computer
to share information or to provide service. See other sections for detailed tutorial examples.
The PPP network - The wide area network formed by the DSL server at the telephone company and
the modem, which acts as an end point of the network. The PPP network allows the modem to communicate
with the Internet through the DSL server.
The modem also acts as the gateway to connect the home network to the Internet through the PPP network.
