HGNC (HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee)? - HGNC is a non-profit making body responsible for approving unique symbols and names for human loci, including protein coding genes, ncRNA genes and pseudogenes, to allow unambiguous scientific communication.

HGNC operates under the auspices of HUGO (Human Genome Organization). HGNC is funded by the US National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and the Wellcome Trust (UK).

HGNC manages the HGNC database at https://www.genenames.org with a Web portal and a REST Web service.
