Windows 7: Disk Folders and Files
This section provides a tutorial example on how to get a list of folders and files, including hidden and system files, on Windows 7 system.
The next area you should check is list of files and folders on the hard disk. The first thing you should do is to dump all file names and folder names into a text file so that you can review them later.
1. Open a command window and run the following commands.
C:\>cd \herong\temp C:\herong\temp>dir /a /s c:\ > c_drive_files.txt
2. Wait for few minutes for the command to finish. The "/a" command option is used to dump both hidden files and system files.
3. Run Windows Explorer and open C:\herong\c_drive_files.txt in Notepad.
4. Go to the end of the file. You will see the total number of files and used disk spaces:
... Directory of c:\Windows\winsxs\x86_xnacc.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1... 07/13/2009 11:49 PM <DIR> . 07/13/2009 11:49 PM <DIR> .. 07/13/2009 03:46 PM 3,760 xnacc.inf 07/13/2009 06:45 PM 465,408 xnacc.sys 2 File(s) 469,168 bytes Total Files Listed: 259394 File(s) 58,542,817,119 bytes 117455 Dir(s) 379,321,765,888 bytes free
As you can see, I have used about 58GB disk space and have plenty of free space on drive C:. Make sure you have enough free space on your drive C:.
Also keep this file. It can help you to find any files hidden in your hard disk.
