Installing Comodo Personal Certificate with Firefox
This section provides a tutorial example on how to install Comodo personal certificate with Firefox by following the hyperlink in the Comodo notification email.
Applying for a free personal certificate at Comodo is easy. But downloading and installing it on my Windows computer is tricky.
There is a warning message on Comodo Website saying:
Please use Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 8+ to collect your certificate. Email Certificates cannot be collected using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
Why? I think Comodo wants to use the browser to install the personal certificate into the browser certificate store directly. The personal certificate actually contains the private key, so it needs to be securely managed.
Here is what I did:
1. Run Mozilla Firefox as an administrator.
2. Open the Comodo certificate notification email and follow the "Click to Install Comodo Email Certificate" link in Firefox.
3. A Comodo Web page opens up and pushes my personal certificate into the browser certificate store automatically.
