Archived: IE 8 Displaying Certificate Error Page
This section provides a tutorial example showing that IE 8 fails to validate an HTTPS server certificate and displays a certificate error page.
Before continue to play with the HTTPS Website, https://login.yahoo.com, let me summarize what happened so far:
Now I want to see how IE 8 behaves, if I remove root certificate "GTE CyberTrust Global Root" again.
1. Open IE 8 and remove root certificate ""GTE CyberTrust Global Root".
2. Close and re-open IE 8 to visit "https://login.yahoo.com".
3. IE 8 returns with a certificate error page:
4. Read the error message:
Certificate Error: Navigation Blocked There is a problem with this website's security certificate. The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority. Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server. We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website. Click here to close this webpage. Continue to this website (not recommended).
I am happy to see that IE 8 fails to validate "login.yahoo.com" certificate as I expected.
