HGNC operates under the auspices of HUGO (Human Genome Organization). HGNC is funded by the US National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and the Wellcome Trust (UK).
HGNC manages the HGNC database at https://www.genenames.org with a Web portal and a REST Web service.
