Privacy Options: Tracking, History and Cookies
This section provides a tutorial example on how to review and modify privacy option settings on tracking, history, and cookies in Firefox.
The next Firefox option area to review and modify is related to privacy protection.
1. Run Firefox and click "Tools > Options" menu. Then click the "Privacy" tab.
2. Review and change privacy option settings as suggested below:
Tracking [x] Tell sites that I do not want to be tracked [ ] Tell sites that I want to be tracked [ ] Do not tell sites anything about my tracking preferences History Firefox will: Never remember history Firefox will use the same settings as private browsing, and will not remember any history as you browse the Web. Location Bar When using the location bar, suggests: Nothing
The history setting is more important than other privacy settings. "Firefox will: Never remember history" means that:
- Firefox will not remember browsing and download history
- Firefox will not remember search and form history
- Firefox will accept cookies from sites
Not allowing Firefox to remember form history is important, because form history may contain your private information you entered into Web forms in the past.
Allowing Firefox to accept cookies is needed, because many Web applications require cookies to function correctly.
