Windows 8: Disk Folders and Files
This section provides a tutorial example on how to get a list of folders and files, including hidden and system files, on Windows 8 system.
The next area you should check is list of files and folders on the hard disk. The first thing you should do is to dump all file names and folder names into a text file so that you can review them later.
1. Open a command window and run the following commands:
C:\>cd \herong\temp C:\herong\temp>dir /a /s c:\ > c_drive_files.txt
2. Wait for few minutes for the command to finish. It will dump all folders and files, including hidden files and system files in your hard disk C: into a text file, c_drive_files.txt.
3. Run Windows Explorer and open C:\herong\c_drive_files.txt in Notepad.
4. Go to the end of the file. You will see the total number of files and used disk spaces:
... Directory of c:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_wwf-system.workflow.runtime_3... 11/27/2012 03:47 AM <DIR> . 11/27/2012 03:47 AM <DIR> .. 07/26/2012 06:08 AM 540,672 System.Workflow.Runtime.dll 1 File(s) 540,672 bytes Total Files Listed: 206248 File(s) 49,770,531,074 bytes 86403 Dir(s) 935,382,556,672 bytes free
As you can see, I have used about 49GB disk space and have plenty of free space on drive C:. Make sure you have enough free space on your drive C:.
Also keep this file. It can help you to find any files hidden in your hard disk.
