Running VirusScan On-Demand Scan
This section provides a tutorial example on how to the on-demand scanner to scan for virus infections in memory, files, registry keys and Website cookies.
As we can see from the previous section, the On-Access scanner is running automatically a background service to scan any new files that are stored to your hard disk.
But once a while, you may want to scan all existing files on your hard disk. This can be done by running the On-Demand Scanner provided by VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i.
Click Start > All Programs > McAfee > On-Demand Scan. The On-Demand Scan Properties dialog box shows up:
Noticed that all settings on the properties dialog box are not editable. My guess is that configuration settings are centralized on the EPS (EPolicy Orchestrator) server. The current configuration says that it will scan: Memory for rootkits, Running processes, All local drives, Registry, and Cookies.
All I can do is to click the Start button. On-Demand scanner starts to scan any virus related issues on my Windows system. The scanning process may a long time, depending on how many files are stored on the hard disk.
The scanning process is done, the log file: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Network Associates\VirusScan \OnDemandScanLog.txt will contain a nice report:

The reports shows that there is no virus related issues on my system. Notice that one file was not scanned, because it was an encrypted ZIP file.
