gnome-tweaks - The GNOME Tweak Tool

This section provides a tuturial example on how to install 'gnome-tweaks' to customize touchpad to simulate mouse clicks.

What Is gnome-tweaks? gnome-tweaks, also called Tweak Tool, is a popular software package that offers additional customizations to the GNOME desktop.

gnome-tweaks provides GNOME customization in the following areas:

gnome-tweaks is not included in the Ubuntu distribution. So you have to install it yourself.

1. Open a Terminal window and type in the installation command:

herong$ sudo apt install gnome-tweaks 

2. Open gnome-tweaks by type in the "gnome-tweaks" command. Or click the "Tweaks" icon from GNOME application launching screen (All tab).

herong$ gnome-tweaks 

3. On the "Tweaks" window, click "Power" in the sidebar, and turn on "Suspend when laptop lid is closed". This puts the computer in sleep mode to save power.

4. Click "Keyboard & Mouse" in the sidebar, and modify the following settings:

Touchpad > Disable While Typing: ON 
Mouse Click Emulation: 
  Fingers: unchecked 
  Area: checked
    right-click: bottom-right edge of the pad
    middle-click: bottom-middle edge of the pad
    left-click: any other area on the pad
