In Chinese astrology, a person's Four Pillars, or Eight Words, are interpreted as:

The Year Pillar, the first two-word, determines his or her "outward animal" through the zodiac animal sign associated with the earthly branch.
The Month Pillar, the second two-word, determines your "inner animal" through the zodiac animal sign associated with the earthly branch.
The Hour Pillar, the fourth two-word, determines your "secret animal" through the zodiac animal sign associated with the earthly branch.
