What Is FileZilla?

This section provides a quick introduction of what is FileZilla - A free FTP client and server program for Windows and Linux.

FileZilla is a free FTP solution with FTP client and FTP server programs developed by Kim Kosse. FileZilla supports FTP, FTPS and SFTP protocols and multiple platforms: Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and more. FileZilla is open source software distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

The current release, FileZilla 3.1.5 supports the following features:

  • Supports FTP, FTP over SSL/TLS (FTPS) and SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)
  • Cross-platform. Runs on Windows, Linux, *BSD, Mac OS X and more
  • IPv6 support
  • Available in many languages
  • Supports resume and transfer of large files > 4GB
  • Powerful Site Manager and transfer queue
  • Drag and drop support
  • Configurable Speed limits
  • Filename filters
  • Network configuration wizard
  • Remote file editing
  • Keep-alive
  • HTTP/1.1, SOCKS5 and FTP-Proxy support
