This section describes Microsoft malware protection program, Forefront Client Security, which offers real-time protection, scheduled and on-demand scans, and malware removal.

What is Forefront Client Security? Forefront Client Security is malware protection tool from Microsoft with features such as an integrated antivirus and antispyware engine, real-time protection, scheduled and on-demand scans, malware removal, and system recovery. Forefront Client Security is not free.

Forefront Client Security offers three ways to help keep malware from infecting your computer:

1. Real-time protection. Client Security alerts you when malware attempts to install itself or run on your computer. It also alerts you when programs attempt to change important Windows settings.

2. Scanning options. You can use Client Security to scan for malware that might be installed on your computer, to schedule scans on a regular basis, and to automatically remove any malware that is detected during a scan.

3. SpyNet community. The online Microsoft SpyNet community helps you see how other people respond to software that has not yet been classified for risks. Seeing if other members of the community allow software can help you choose whether to allow it on your computer. In turn, if you participate, your choices are added to the community ratings to help other people choose what to do.

Forefront Client Security also offers a nice tool called Software Explorer that helps you to exam running processes, startup programs, network connections and Winsock services.
