Archived: Downloading and Installing JDK 8
This section describes how to download and install Java SE 8 (JDK 7) on a Windows system.
To learn Java, you need to have a copy of JDK (Java Development Kit) installed on your machine. The current version of JDK is JDK 8, which is also called Java SE (Standard Edition) 8 Here is what I did to download and install JDK 8 on my Windows machine.
The picture below shows you how the JDK 8 Installation Screen looks like:
To test the installation, open a command window to try the java command. If you are getting the following output, your installation was ok:
herong> \progra~1\java\jdk1.8.0\bin\java -version java version "1.8.0" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0-b132) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 25.0-b70, mixed mode, sharing)
