Windows 8: Firewall Allowed Programs

This section provides a tutorial example on how to view Windows Firewall allowed programs Windows 8 system.

Windows Firewall on Windows 8 system also supports summary view of inbound and outbound firewall rules.

1. Go to "Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall" and click the "Advanced Settings" link. You will see the firewall "Windows Firewall with Advanced Settings" screen.

2. Click "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall" on the left of the screen. You will see a summary list of inbound and outbound rules that override global settings.

3. You can click the "Change settings" button to make on override rules. But the information on this summary screen is so confusing. I don't really know what each checkbox means.

Conclusion: Do not use this screen to manage firewall rules. Use the "Advanced Settings" screen instead.
