This section describes the 'stylesheet' element, which is the root element of any XSLT stylesheet document. It serves as the stylesheet declaration statement.

"stylesheet" is the root element of an XSLT stylesheet file. A "stylesheet" element serves as the XSLT stylesheet declaration statement.

The syntax of the "stylesheet" element is:

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
   xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
 ... XSLT template elements ...
</xsl:stylesheet>

Syntax rules of the "stylesheet" element are:

The "stylesheet" element must be the root element of an XSLT stylesheet file.
The "version" attribute is required to specify the XSLT language version. Currently XSLT has 2 versions: 1.0 and 2.0.
The "xmlns" attribute is required to specify the XSLT namespace URI. For version 1.0, the URI is http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform.
The "stylesheet" element can only have "template" elements as its direct child elements.
