∟Installing Latest JDK on macOS

This section provides a tutorial example on how to download and install the latest version JDK, which includes some nice Java tools, on a macOS system.

As a Java developer kit, the Oracle JDK package includes a number of nice Java tools.

Here is what I did to download and install JDK 15, also called Java SE 15, on my macOS computer.

1. Go to Oracle Java SE download website at oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html.

2. Click "JDK Download" next to "Java Platform (JDK) 15".

3. Click "jdk-15_osx-x64_bin.dmg" from the download list. It will be saved to your "Downloads" directory automatically.

4. Double click on "jdk-15_osx-x64_bin.dmg" to install it.

To test the installation, open a command window to try the java command. If you are getting the following output, your installation was ok:

java version "15" 2020-09-15
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 15+36-1562)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 15+36-1562, mixed mode, sharing)
