Creating Procedures with IN and OUT Parameters
This section describes how to create a procedure with IN and OUT parameters.
To do more tests on CallableStatement objects, I created another stored procedure with IN and OUT parameters:
herong> sqlplus Enter user-name: Herong/TopSecret SQL> -- Creating a stored procedure SQL> CREATE PROCEDURE CountChar(String IN CHAR, 2 Count OUT INTEGER) AS 3 BEGIN 4 Count := LENGTH(String); 5 END; 6 / Procedure created. SQL> -- Turning on server output for PUT_LINE() SQL> SET SERVEROUTPUT ON; SQL> -- Testing the procedure with an anonymous procedure SQL> DECLARE 2 C INTEGER; 3 BEGIN 4 CountChar('Herong',C); 5 DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Count: ' || C); 6 END; 7 / Count: 6 PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
Note that I had to use an anonymous procedure to test CountChar(), because the output variable needs to be declared.
