What Is an IE Addon?
IE (Internet Explorer) Addon is nice feature which allows Microsoft and 3rd party providers to develop and
install different types of utility tools for your IE browser. Examples of IE addons are:
- Google Toolbar
- Yahoo! Companion
IE add can offer you nice tools, but it can also bring you problems. The following sections capture some notes
I took while I was looking at the computer of a friend of mine for strange IE behaviors.
deSrcAs.dll - MyWay Search Assistant
Symptom: Very often, if you click, a new IE window is trying to pop up, but fails half way with
a Windows system error window showing up asking you to report the error to Microsoft. At the same time,
CPU goes to 100% and stays at that level.
HijackThis Report: In the report, I saw this line:
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75}
- C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll
Quick Research: I did a Google search on "deSrcAs.dll.bin" and found that deSrcAs.dll is part of the MyWay Search Assistant tool
pre-installed on Dell computers.
What I Did:
1. Looked at c:\Program Files\MyWaySA\, found the directory, and tried to deleted it, but failed because of
"file in use"
2. Looked at IE > Internet Options > Programs > Manage Addon, found the entry, and disabled it.
myway Myway.com
3. Went to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, and removed MyMay.
4. Restarted the computer.
Result: MyWay is gone!
