This section describes how to download and install Microsoft JDBC Driver 4.2 for SQL Server 2014.
If you want to access SQL Server database from Java applications, you need to install a JDBC driver that supports SQL Server. There are many software vendors offer such JDBC drivers.
Microsoft offers a free driver, JDBC Driver 4.2. The tutorial below shows you how to download and install it.
1. Go to Microsoft JDBC Drivers 4.2, 4.1 and 4.0 for SQL Server Website at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11774.
2. Click the Download button.
3. Select sqljdbc_4.2.6225.100_enu.tar.gz.
4. Save the downloaded file, sqljdbc_4.2.6225.100_enu.tar.gz, to C:\temp directory.
5. Unzip and untar the downloaded file. You will see a new folder C:\temp\sqljdbc_4.2\enu. The JDBC driver .jar file, sqljdbc42.jar, is located under that folder.
6. Copy C:\temp\sqljdbc_4.2\enu\sqljdbc42.jar to C:\local\lib\sqljdbc42.jar. You are ready to use JDBC Driver 4.2 now.
7. You may also want to copy all other versions of the JDBC Driver JAR files to \local\lib in case you want try different JDBC API versions and JDK versions, see the table below for details.
