What Is FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
This section provides a quick introduction of FTP application that allows you to transfer files between the local computer and a remote computer over the Internet.
What Is The FTP (File Transfer Protocol)? - FTP is an Internet application that allows you to transfer files between the local computer and a remote computer over the Internet. FTP was proposed by J. Postel in 1980 in "RFC 765 - File Transfer Protocol" at https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc765.
As of today, file transfer applications based on FTP are still widely used. Here is a screenshot of the FTP application FileZilla that allows you to drag and drop files between two computers (Source: filezilla-project.org):
